in general

By now you have probably heard that Dollar Tree has stopped carrying the newspaper in most areas.  This means that I am back to paying $1.75 for my Sunday paper.  A few people have emailed me to let me know that Walmart sells the Sunday paper at a reduced price in many areas, so you might want to check it out!

Please remember that the value of the coupons that you find in your newspaper may vary from the value in the provided link!  In addition, all of the stores in my area double coupons up to $.99 (so a $.75 coupon has a value of $1.50).

Click hereto see the coupons this week.  There are 2 inserts:  1 SmartSource and 1 RedPlum

Coupons of Note

Betty Crocker Warm Delights $.50:  my kids love these and they go on sale 3 for $5 quite frequently and sometimes even as low at 10 for $10!

Cutter Insect Repellent $2:  with summer approaching, we should start seeing some really good sales on this

Dole mandarin Oranges $1/3:  wait for these to go 10 for $10

Eskimo Pie $1:  Ice cream sales abound right now!

Hamburger Helper $.75/3:  wait for these to go 10 for $10 as well!

Healthy Choice Fresh Mixers $.75:  these go on sale for as low as $2, but more frequently for $2.50

Lysol Neutra Air Freshmatic Starter Kit $4:  these go on sale for $5-$6 all the time

Nature Valley Granola Bars $.75/2:  hold on to this until the go BOGO or on sale for as low as $2/box

SoyJoy Coupons:  these can usually be found on sale for as low as $.50/bar.  People either love them or hate them (I like them!).  Try them crumbled up in fat-free vanilla yogurt!

Bayer Quick Release Crystals $2:  Wags and CVS have been having deals where these are freebies.  Use this coupon to turn the freebie in to a moneymaker!

Daisy Sour Cream $.50:  they have put a size restriction on it that wasn’t on previous coupons, but you should be able to snag the 16 oz size on a 3 for $5 sale

Land O Lakes $.55:  hold on to this until it goes on sale for $2

So how many copies of the paper would I buy?

If I were building a stockpile:  3-5

Now that I am in stockpile maintenance mode:  2-4

Why so few?  The coupons just aren’t that exciting.  It’s nice to see some General Mills coupons return, but even those aren’t so very thrilling!

Can you freeze sour cream?

I don’t think sour cream freezes well. But, there are lots of uses for it! There are tons of baking recipes that use sour cream. I was going to try a sour cream banana bread this weekend myself!

Don’t ask what inspired me to actually open the newspaper this week–lol. But there is a .50/1 Skippy peanut butter 15 oz or larger on A12 of the Philly Inquirer.

You bring up a good point, Jennifer – we should probably at least breeze through the paper in search of ROP coupons… :) Thanks Mindi – Do you think that the $1 newspapers will return?!?!

I’m really amazed at how much the inserts seem to differ from region to region (or maybe it has more to do with a paper’s circulation numbers – our town used to be so small the paper didn’t qualify to carry these inserts at all). But I don’t see a bunch of what you list even tho I did get a SS and a RP insert in today’s local paper. However, I see a $1/2 Dole bag salad coupon that has me all excited since our local Giant doubles $1 coupons and has reduced the Dole bag salads to $2.50 again this week. I realize these salads aren’t economical but they work perfectly for us and I don’t throw anything away like I often do with heads of lettuce…
