UPDATED, 12:30pm 4/4/09

After getting my newspapers, I found that there are FIVE inserts this week:  2 SmartSource, 1 RedPlum 1 Unilever and a P&G

After looking at the coupons, I upped the number that I bought to 8 copies!

As a reminder, when I list the number of newspapers that I will be buying, I take in to account that I am able to get them at the Dollar Tree for only $1/copy. To find a Dollar Tree near you, click here. Don’t have a Dollar Tree? Check out your local dollar store. Many supermarkets even discount the Sunday paper. I also live in an area where all of the stores double up to $.99 (so a $.75 coupon is actually worth $1.50). If your newspapers are more expensive or you live where they don’t double coupons, you may not find the inserts of the same value as I do! In addition, the value of the coupons vary by area, but I hope that this will serve as a good guideline!

Here’s a link to the coupons this week.  There are 3 inserts:  SmartSource, RedPlum and Proctir & Gamble!

Coupons of Note

(includes coupons not listed in the link)

Vitamin Water10 $1:  these go 10 for $10 all the time, making them free

Betty Crocker Warm Delights $.50:  these are 3 for $5 all the time

Betty Crocker Cookie Mix $.40:  these are 10 for $10 all the time

Green Giant Valley Steamers $.50:  these are 10 for $10 all the time, making them free

Breyers Yogurt Cups $.50 off 6:  these have been going on sale for about $.50 each lately

Comet Soft Cleaner $.35 (not the best coupon, but it’s been a while since I have seen any coupons at all for Comet!)

Daisy Sour Cream $.50:  these go on sale 3 for $5 all the time, making it $.66 after doubling

International Delights Liquid Coffee Creamer $1/2:  hold on to this for a BOGO sale (and did you know that you can easily freeze this?)

John Frieda Collection Product $2:  Rite Aid has a deal that starts Sunday where you can get 4 for $10 after SCR (must buy 4).  With these coupons, you can get them for $.50 each after coupons!

Johnsonville Coupons $1:  these are always on BOGO

Schick Disposable Razor BOGO:  CVS just loves to run “Free after ECBs deals on these”

Viva Towels $.85:  I always hold on to these until SuperFresh has triples to get $.19 paper towels

Dunkin’ Donuts Coffee $1.50:  hold on to this until a BOGO sale

Kellogg’s cereal coupons:  the free milk deal is still running at particiapting supermarkets nationwide through 4/12 and these will help!

Eggo $.75:  these go 3 for $5 all the time, making them $.16 after doubling!

Texas Toast Croutons $.55:  I see these for 10 for $10 or 3 for $5 all the time

Hannah Montana product coupons:  just wanted to throw in how happy I am that my almost-3-year old has no idea who Hannah Montana is!

Pantene $3 off 2:  There is an ECB deal at CVS starting tomorrow that isn’t that great, but there should be another before the end of the month

Crest $.75:  either use it to make a “Free After ECB” deal at CVS a moneymaker, or watch the sales at your store because I see Crest on sale for as low as 10 for $10 (but more frequently $1.50-$2) all the time!

Unilever Insert:

Breyers Ice Cream $.75:  Breyers is on sale about once a month

Knorr Rice or Pasta Sides $.75/2:  these are 10 for $10 all the time and part of Catalina Deals, making them $.25 each after doubling

Ragu Pasta Sauce $.30:  this is a  better coupon than we normally get in my area (usually is it a $.50/2)

Skippy Peanut Butter $.40:  These go on sale at 3 for $5, making for $.86 peanut butter after doubling

So how many copies of the paper would I buy?

If I were building a stockpile: 8-12

Now that I am in stockpile-maintenance mode: 6-8

The John Frieda Coupon is great (and I really like the Frizz-Ease line) and alone makes it worth the cost of paper if you are thinking of doing the SCR deal at Rite Aid!  The Kellogg’s coupons will help if you are working the cereal/free milk deals.  We are due for another Triples at SuperFresh and I wouldn’t mind some more super-cheap paper towels!

I got 2 extra inserts… a smart source green and a unilever insert. In the Unilever insert there is a $.75 off of Bryers ice cream! The SS green has some organic coupons and even a coupon for $1 off of international delights coffee creamer which is my favorite.

Thanks Kelly! I usually take my time getting to the Dollar Tree (Saturday or Sunday), but because of your comment I RAN to my Dollar Tree to get them!

You can freeze coffee creamer? Seriously? Brilliant! LOL Why didn’t I ever think of that before. Although, the expirations on those usually last awhile, but it’s still good to know. Thanks!

I heard about it myself not too long ago (when you could get it at Target for about $.25). I bought a whole bunch and froze them and they are fine. Just pull it out of the freezer and allow to thaw in the fridge!

Wait a second…you can buy your Sunday newspapers on Saturday at the Dollar Tree?? Or, am I misunderstanding? :-)

6 Mindi April 4, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Yep! they are always at my Dollar Tree when they open at 9:00am on Saturday! Half the time my Wawa doesn’t even have them on Saturdays until about noon!

Do you ever have trouble with the coupons not being the same?

I did that a couple of weeks ago at a Wawa (bought Sunday paper on Saturday evening) and it was missing an insert – and I checked multiple papers to make sure! The next day I went back and got the Sunday paper on Sunday and the insert was there!

Now I am nervous!

I just make sure that I know what is going to be in the paper and check the papers for each insert before I buy them! If a paper doesn’t have them all, I just set it aside and grab another one!

I’ve actually talked to the Phila Inquirer people and they said that there might sometimes be differences between stores and home delivery editions, but not store to store in the same area…and the “inside section” (classifieds, inserts, Lifestyle, opinion sections, etc) are finished a day or two before the papers come out and should be uniform within an area!

Holy crap in a pan! I hadn’t planned on going out tomorrow but I will so I can pick up extra copies of the newspaper!

Hummina-hummina-hummina! *does the happy dance*

First, I want to say that I have been freezing coffee creamers for years now with no problems at all. I freeze almost everything!! LOL

Now, my local Dollar Tree doesn’t sell the paper inside the store. I was told that they are in those machines outside the store. So, I’m guessing they won’t be $1 each.

I refer to your blog quite often and use it for reference before I go buy my extra papers!! Thank you!

Here in Central IL, the Warm Delights go on sale as part of a 10 for $10 sale. So I can get them free!! Unfortunately, they only double coupons up to 50 cents. :(

I was almost the crazy lady doing a happy dance at Genuardi’s this afternoon. After a total bust last week, what a gold mine this week!! I was away at my mom’s last weekend and just managed to grab her inserts from the Pottstown Mercury. Blah, blah, and double blah. They stunk! I thought I could count on my neighbor (who gives me the inserts from her Philly Inquirer), but she must have only gotten the SS in her paper.

ALSO, check the backs of the sections in the Philly Inquirer. There is a 2.00/1 Wisk product, 32 oz or larger on the back of the international section (I think).

And, a Genaurdi’s coupon for Claritin allergy 10 ct. or 4 oz liquid 7.99, good through 4/12. This is on the back of the Arts & Entertainment section. They are also advertising “fill your allergy prescription, and get a 10% off coupon good on your next grocery purchse”. This is also for Genaurdi’s only.

I am so excited that I can freeze cream. I just bought
6 because they were on sale. Do I put the carton
itself in the freezer or dump it into something else?

I am SO new to the coupon world, and I must say that I am a little confused.
I have read every post on your blog. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for all of the information. I have learned A LOT, but I still have a couple of questions.
I bought my first weekend paper, and was happily clipping coupons, and then noticed that all of them say ‘one coupon per transaction’.
Does that mean that I can’t double them?
Also, I live in a small town and our local paper only has a couple thin inserts. Do different papers have more bigger inserts with more coupons? Please help! I want to grow my pathetic stockpile. :)

15 Mindi April 7, 2009 at 6:32 am

Actually Emily – most of those coupons said “One Per purchase”, not “one per transaction”…and there is a HUGE difference between the two!

A purchase = an item
A transaction = all of the items that you are purchasing.

What they mean by “one per purchase” is that if you are buying 1 bottle of Tide (for example), you can’t use 2 manufacturers coupons for that 1 bottle!

As for finding better inserts: I can really only help you with which paper to buy if you live in the Philadelphia area, in which case the Inquirer usually has the best inserts.

If you can’t find better inserts in any papers in your area, there is always the option of buying inserts or just specific coupons from services like Coupon Clippers

Thank you! I re-read some of your posts, and learned a lot more.
I did order some coupons from coupon clippers, and will be doing my first grocery w/coupons, run at Meijer. I did some calling around, and they are the only grocery store in our area that will double coupons, and then only up to .50! AARRRG!
Your site has been SO helpful. Thanks!
