If you are looking for an easy and free anti-spyware program, check out Spyware Doctor, available through GooglePack (last on the list in the right-hand column)

I’m having serious computer issues right now and in the course of trying to figure it out, I downloaded Spyware Doctor. In 5 minutes, it found 24 Spyware “things” (whatever they are called) with over 200 infections and had removed them.

Now I’m trying to remove 4 viruses that Norton seems unable to remove. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. Free is good!

Or in the alternative, if anyone can point me to a “Removing Stubborn Viruses for Idiots” site, these are the ones I am trying to get rid of:

Downloader.MisleadApp (2 incidences)

Bloodhound.Exploit.196

Trojan.Pandex

For some reason, even after following all the instructions 17,000 times, they just won’t remove from my computer…anyone have any suggestions? (besides getting a Mac!)?

(note: this is the reason that my Acme post has been delayed. Hope to get it and the Giant PA post up by Eagles kickoff tonight!)

1 Missie September 28, 2008 at 10:48 am: I found that Spybot-search and destroy really works for any type of viruses. Look up on google search and download spyware. I had about 50 viruses on my computer from the kids on alot of different sites. Then my neighbor gave me this spybot-search and destroy and it really did wonders on my system. Good luck
2 Nicole September 28, 2008 at 1:28 pm: I find that AVG Free keeps everything malicious off of my computer.
I use it in conjunction with the above software suggestion, and I’ve never had a virus!
3 Theresa September 28, 2008 at 1:48 pm: I have had really good luck with MajorGeeks for help with removing spyware. Be sure to search through their forums, and if you can’t find an answer, they will help you. I use Comodo’s antivirus and firewall freeware.

4 Rebecca September 28, 2008 at 5:08 pm: I use Spybot, AVG and Ad-Aware on a regular basis. If you are still having trouble though check out http://www.majorgeeks.com.

I was having problems with my computer a few months ago (before I was using the above mentioned things) and I used this site to help clean up and scan my computer. They have LOTS of good info. If you can’t get rid of a virus their are other programs that they recommend you scan with and then delete afterwards. It helped my computer out a lot.

6 Missie September 29, 2008 at 7:06 pm: you could also try avast antivirus and if that doesn’t work you could think about rebooting your computer, it’s a pain to back up all important data that you don’t want to lose but it will give you a fresh new computer when done. Or call the company that you brought the computer from and ask them to troubleshoot with you. I have done that before and worked well afterwords.
7 midlife mommy September 29, 2008 at 9:02 pm: I use Trend Micro Internet Security (and dumped Norton). You can get it on a 30 day trial and see if you like it. I came across it when I had viruses that Norton couldn’t remove; Trend Micro did the trick.

9 idalia October 29, 2008 at 2:59 pm: Did anyone actually remove the Bloodhound.Exploit.196 virus? I have my Symatec pop every day about 6 times saying it is only logged but can’t find it. Is Symatec not good at all?
