Giant of PA 8/24 to 8/30/08: $1 DOUBLERS!

in Giant Food Stores

This post is part of The Grocery Gathering hosted by BeCentsAble.  To find the best deals at your local store, please visit her site!

Is it just me, or are you less thrilled with Giant now that they have switched to mainly Gas Points promotions?  Seriously – the closest store with Gas Pumps is about 20 minutes away!  I guess if you live right near one it’s great.  Or if you have room in your pantry to build a stockpile while getting cheap gas.  But I miss the way it used to be – where the stores that didn’t have gas pumps got Catalina Deals instead of Gas Points Deals.

Anyway….

  • 4 $1 Coupon Doublers.  use these with any $1 Manufacturers coupons to receive $ off the item.  Limit 4 per household/card for the week.  NOTE:  they indicate that they may only be used with a minimum $15 purchase after all discounts have been subtracted.  This is going to be open to your store’s interpretation.  FYI – at my local store, that has always been translated to mean “after all BonusCard savings, but before coupons.  Your store may require $15 AFTER coupons, so check with your store!

  • produce prices are pretty bad…..

So the prices aren’t that great, but let me know what you think….if you shop at a store that doesn’t have gas pumps, do these gas deals appeal to you?  Are you willing to drive 20 minutes to save $.20/gallon on gas?  If not, how many times would you have to do the deal or how much savings would it take for you to want to do them?

Because I’m not sold on this whole gas thing….

Honestly, I have never shopped at our Giant. The closest one is in Williamsport, and I don’t usually go there. But when I got the ad this week I was really impressed with the coupon doublers and the $7 off your next order (I guess that is what ours is doing instead of the gas deals). Maybe I’ll make an extra trip this week! Thanks for your post!

That’s exactly what I’m talking about Rachel! Before our store switched to Gas Points, we would have had the $7 Catalina Deal. I used to turn those Catalinas in to free milk, produce, meats, etc. I just can’t get as excited about the gas when I have to drive 20 minutes to redeem it!

We have several Giant gas stations in our area, so I do work on those gas deals, but only if the products are things our family would use anyway. Lately some of the other gas stations are beating Giant’s gas prices, so unless I get like .50 or so, it’s cheaper (and sometimes more convenient) to get gas somewhere else.
Actually, I think I’d prefer the Catalinas. We always need milk and meat and other things that never have coupons or go on sale.

I don’t like the gas deals as much as catalinas. However, this week I was able to do pretty well with the 2 gas deals on things that I need/use anyhow.

I also had some different coupons than you had listed. They may have been from when my MIL shared all her coupons with me (she is from another area).
