Pimp the Pig Giveaway – Tuesday Tee-hee!

by Mindi Cherry on July 29, 2008

Monday (August 4th) is a big day in our house…it is the day that we start with the absolutely, no-questions-asked, unless-gas-prices-spike-$1/gallon-overnight, your-life-must-depend-on-it-before-we-use-the-credit-or-debit-card (and not in the “I’ll die if I don’t have these shoes” way) rule.  In other words, we are going to the “envelope system” of cash management.  The way I figure it, it has worked for my grandmother for 85 years and she is pretty much a gadzillionaire….it’s worth a try!

Of course, I am nothing if not shallow practical, so if I am going to be carting envelopes around in my purse, I want them to LOOK good.  And so, I ordered Dave Ramsay’s Designer Envelope System (in red) and it arrived on Friday.  But there was a slight problem…I hit the wrong button and ended up ordering the Envelope System WITH the Coupon Companion.  If you have seen my coupon binder, you know that this (very nice) coupon organizer isn’t going to help me much.  My coupon binder could beat the pulp out of this organizer!  But it IS perfect for someone just starting out.

All this is an overly-wordy way of saying I have something to give away…and since it is Tuesday, I thought that we could start a new weekly project of finding the humor in couponing.  So many people stress WAY too much about the cashier who is going to give you a problem, the customer behind you who makes you feel as if the only thing standing between them and their finding the cure for cancer is you and your stack of coupons.  Sooner or later, you just HAVE to get past the embarassment and find the humor in it.

So let’s hear it!  Post your funniest couponing story from the week on your blog and link to this blog/giveaway.  Once your post is up, leave a comment here with a link to your post.  The winner will be chosen on Monday and they will be the proud recipient of a free Dave Ramsey Coupon Organizer!

Well i dont have a blog or funny story, but i still want to be entered…LOL. I will tell a story though.

Last time i was at the grocery store, knowing that I often hold up the checker, I warned everyone gettting in line behind me. THen an older lady got in line behind me and she said that was fine and was going to stay. BUt she only had a few little things so I let her go ahead of me cause I had a ton of stuff. She couldnt believe it and started telling the cashier, who just thought that was the sweetest thing ever (no big deal though, really). When she rang my coupons she made sure every single one of them rang up right and I had absolutely no problems….all because I let someone go ahead of me.

I was doing one of my wonderful Target shopping sprees. My total was $76 and change then after the young, female cashier scanned all my Qs my OOP was $16 and change. I enjoyed her facial expression as she watched the total go down w/ me. Once all my Qs were scanned, she said, “That’s sick!” Too funny!

I don’t have very funny couponing stories. However, one time a bunch of teenage cashiers watched my cashier do all my coupons because they wanted to see how much I saved. I thought that was funny. :)

I went to Walgreens to get a few things and my total ended up being about 30 cents after all the coupons, the cashier’s face was priceless as she kept watching with me as the total kept going down, she asked me how I figured out how to do that and after giving her a couple websites to check out, I told her that all the coupons that she needed for that transaction were in that Sunday’s paper, she paused for a moment thinking and then her eyes got really big and all she could say in a slow but excited voice was “I can even use my employee discount” – lol :)

I had a fun trip to CVS this week and posted it on my blog. I have created a binder, but would love to try this out. Actually, I might give it to my cashier. You’ll see why if you read my story! Thanks!

A man was checking me out at Walmart. I was afraid he wouldn’t have patience for my huge stack of coupons. Instead he patiently scanned each one making sure they worked properly. When my 90.00 total ended up at 8.00 he said, “Sweet, sweet, sweet. You saved 90%!” Now everytime I get him he gets excited for me.
